We had a very productive drive time…since we’ve been home from the hospital we’ve been reading the new Heaven for Kids book by Randy Alcorn which is quite providential considering the circumstances we’re living through right now. So, during the drive we talked about whether or not the kids should see Nana’s body. Then, Jeremy called Mark Mitchell, one of our pastors, and discussed it with him. A little while later we read Chapter 2 entitled, “After We Die, Then What?” out loud to the kids. The questions addressed in this chapter included:

  • What happens to us the second after we die?
  • What’s the difference between the present Heaven and the future Heaven?
  • Is Heaven “up”? Where exactly is it?
  • If we die before Jesus comes back, will we have bodies in the present Heaven?
  • Do people in Heaven remember life on earth?
  • Can people in Heaven see what’s happening on Earth?
  • Are people in Heaven praying for people on Earth?

We had a wonderful disussion about how Nana was no longer in her body, but that she was in Heaven with Jesus and that one day when Jesus comes back and makes the New Earth Nana will get her new resurrection body that will never die! They seemed to understand and later we discussed with them whether or not they wanted to see her body. They all said they did.  So, we decided to let them…they seem to be handling it o.k. I’m sure there will be many questions as we settle back into our routine back in Maryland.
