For those of you who don’t know my Nana’s birthday was November 19th. When we found out we were expecting again and the due date was December 3rd Nana said something about maybe this one could be on her birthday. We were all hoping for a little girl and throughout the pregnancy I was trying to figure out how to name this baby after Nana if it was a girl. My Nana’s name is Dorothy Ann, so I was trying to figure out how to get the Ann into this baby’s name. Right at the very end we decided on Brianna (thank you Patricia)! Then, one morning during my quiet time I read a Scripture and decided that Joy would be a good middle name. Jer still wasn’t sure about the middle name, but when I told Nana she said, “Oh, I love that!!” So, the decision was made…This Brianna Joy Mayhew is named after her Nana. Mama did print out some pictures from my blog to take to her on Sunday, so she’s been able to enjoy them the last 3 days of her life. I had sent an album of pictures yesterday, but we’ll have to call the hospital to see if they can look for the package and either forward it on or return to sender. I only wish she could’ve met her and got to hold her and love on her…

My Mama just called and my Nana didn’t make it through surgery…

As I type my Nana is in Columbia Medical Center of Plano, TX awaiting brain surgery. In fact she could be in surgery right now. A few months ago she started having leg seizures and they discovered a meningioma benign brain tumor. They decided to do stereotactic radiosurgery first to try to kill it. This hasn’t worked and since then she’s been confined to a wheelchair and can’t use her right arm or leg. She can’t do anything for herself including feed herself, so my Pop has had to do everything and he’s exhausted.

On Monday, the 20th of November, Pop took her to the hospital to see her dr in Mt. Pleasant and he admitted her. Then, he contacted her Dallas doctor and had her moved to Dallas (Plano) where she is now. Since then they’ve been running all kinds of tests and have decided to do the surgery to remove the tumor. They say that this is the only way that she is going to be able to get better. The tumor is pressing on the other parts of the brain and that’s what’s causing the seizures and symptoms.

Please pray for:

Doctors and nurses

Pop to have strength and be refreshed

Their trust in the Lord

Complete recovery

Strength for Rehab

Well, we are finally home and getting settled in. We left the hospital about 12:30 on Thanksgiving Day and we have so much to be thankful for! First of all, our greatest need has already been met by the Father sending His Son, Jesus, to take the wrath that we deserve for our many sins! That’s enough there to be overly ecstatic about!

Brianna Joy smilin'

Not to mention the other gifts that He’s graciously bestowed on us! He provided for us to be able to stay in the hospital with our children safe and happy with friends from church even in the midst of the holiday season. Thank you Herceg’s and Mastromarinos and Cantillos! Thank you all for being flexible and helping as needs arose at the last minute! Then, we get to enjoy our new blessing with Daddy at home with us to help me out with caring for the kids’ physically and spiritually…not to mention meal prep, laundry, keeping the house in order, grocery shopping, etc. Jeremy is such a gift to me and I know He was handpicked by the Father for me. Thank you, Lord, for my husband!!

Brianna Joy has been a joy to us already in just the 4 short days we’ve known her. She’s been the typical Mayhew easy baby…sleeping, eating, pottying and just today started spitting up! She even spit up on Lela and I said, “she’s paying Lela back for all the times she spit up on me”. I’m sure Tamra is thinking the same thing! I remember one time at church when Lela spit up all down the back of Tamra’s nice dark dress…anyone else remember being spit up on by Lela?? I know all of them have spit up, but NONE like Lela! :o) I hope her sister won’t try to outdo her!

Well, right now Daddy and the others are at the grocery store filling in our gap for lunchtime meals. I’m enjoying some quiet time while Brianna sleeps…I should probably be doing that too, but I just wanted to take a few minutes and send this little update.

Well, today is the day we welcome our new arrow into our quiver. We go in at 1 to begin the caesarean at 2. If all goes smoothly little Brianna Joy should be with us sometime before 3pm.

We had a special time last night of Jeremy leading the children in encouraging me and then praying for me. One thing Nate appreciates is that I don’t smell like rotting fish (isn’t that encouraging!!!). They appreciate that I cook for them and keep them in clean clothes, that I teach them school…expressing our gratefulness to one another is a new practice for our family so it’s something we all need some growth in!

I didn’t sleep very well last night…it seemed I was awake thinking about all the details of the procedure, the hospital stay, how the other kids are going to do, is anyone going to get sick, what life with a new baby is going to be like, etc.

So, I decided to get up and read the Bible. Since today is the 20th I decided to read Psalm 20.

May the LORD answer you in the day of trouble!

May the name of the God of Jacob protect you!

May He send you help from the sanctuary and give you support from Zion!

May He remember all your offerings and regard with favor your burnt sacrifices!

May He grant you your heart’s desire and fulfill all your plans!

May we shout for joy over your salvation, and in the name of our God set up our banners!

May the LORD fulfill all your petitions!

Now I know that the LORD saves His annointed, He will answer him from His holy heaven with the saving might of His right hand.

Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.

They collapse and fall, but we rise and stand upright.

O LORD save the king!

May He answer us when we call.

What an encouragement from the LORD! He is with me, He is strong, He is sovereign and He loves me…His plan (no matter what it is) is good for me.

My kids really surprised me this past Thursday! I was doing things around the house to get ready for the baby and Nate came to me with something stufffed up his shirt and asked what I usually used to clean the floors. I told him and asked why and he said they were going to clean my floors for me!! Wow!! So, they are downstairs sweeping the kitchen and entryway, then they get on their hands and knees and clean the floor with washcloths. Then, they go to all the bathrooms and clean the floors. The next thing I know they are cleaning the windows…amazing! It was such a blessing for them to take the initiative to do this, plus hearing them working together without strife was a beautiful thing! It produced praise in my heart to the Lord …His kindness toward me through my children! Thank you Nate and Lela!!

The other day I asked Nate to please bring in the two recycle bins and the trashcan from the curb. It took him awhile, so I went out to see why and discovered this! He had a bungee cord and had figured out a way to bring them all to the house in one trip! Amazing, huh?!
