CARE GROUP PICNIC
In late August we had our Care Group picnic. The kids had a blast playing on the playground and then playing some prearranged games like relay races, how many socks can you put on in a certain amount of time, hot potato, bobbing for apples and much more. There were prized to be had for all.
The whole gang (except the M’s who had already left and C.J. hanging out in the stroller.
FAMILY OUTING
This is a family outing to Sam’s Club. We do our shopping and have a nice pizza dinner. It’s always a treat for the kids and mommy, for sure.
GARDEN AND PATIO
We enjoyed a nice meal outside with our new “hand-me-down” grill and highly discounted patio furniture and afterward Nate pulled all the carrots from the garden.
SCIENCE EXPERIMENTS
Outside our front door we enjoyed watching this spider respin it’s web each night and even got to watch it eat a big, fat, juicy bumblebee! One day it was gone. Jer thinks it got eaten by a bird!
While I was in Texas, Daddy did their glider experiment with them from our Science curriculum. It was a success and they all guessed correctly about which one would fly the farthest.
IMPROMPTU SCIENCE EXPERIMENT
After going to a birthday party at Chuckee Cheese and one of our party favors exploding on Mommy and Daddy’s bed, Daddy decided to find out if this thing was flammable. So, we proceeded to the backyard where we tried to set it afire with the sun and a magnifying glass. There wasn’t any direct sunlight this late in the day so we resorted to a grill lighter! And, yes, it was flammable!
C.J. loved Chuckee Setting it on fire Baking Soda!
On a side note, another one of these party favors exploded in our van seat as I was sitting on it all the way to the airport for my Texas trip. When I got out of the van at the airport I had fluorescent green goo all over the back of my pants…all I could do was laugh! Sorry, I don’t have picture of that!!
HISTORY COOP
We joined a new history coop this year and have started the year out studying the Vikings. Our first meeting we watched a documentary-type movie about the Vikings and made Viking bread. The kids didn’t really like the bread. It was a hard, dense bread that they aren’t used to. Since then we’ve made Viking longboats, longhouses and right now we are working on Viking costumes! We should finish them this Friday and I’ll post some pictures of all of these projects.

This was fun to read! I especially like the recycling of the exploding party favors. I really wish you had a picture of the one that you sat on. That was funny!
The Vikings are so interesting. I watched something on the history channel last night about the Vikings. It made me very thankful to be living in this day and age. I think the people on this show ate a hard bread and some dried (whole) fish and ham. Life seemed so hard for them!
It is fun to see the neat things that your family is doing and how they are learning. I have always wanted to plant a garden, but have never gotten around to doing it. Maybe next year?
