I Don’t FULLY Endorse All Pearl Material

I must say that I don’t fully endorse everything that the Pearl’s have written (in their other books). I haven’t really read anything in the Created to be His Help Meet book that I don’t agree with, though. I believe that as you read it and pray through it and study your husband the Lord will transform your marriage.

There are some things that are a bit extreme and she’s very blunt, but she’s speaking frankly to women who are making excuses for not obeying God’s word and she’s really seeking to get their attention, I think. And, that she does!!

Theologically speaking, I’m not sure they are completely sound…but this book is definitely worth reading…for God’s Glory!

Well, I’m on chapter 7 and I have been very convicted! The farther I go along though I find her rubbing me the wrong way. I am totally receiving that my spirit is not a thankful one in regards to my husband and I am seeing how serious it is to try to be your husband’s conscience. However, her harshness and twisting of scripture is very bothersome! I have struggled as I read if I could recommend this book to my friends and family. I’m still struggling.

    Tamra,

I remember that as I read I had some reactions like that as well. I can’t remember specific scripture twisting, but I do remember being shocked by her directness and lack of compassion. But, I was thinking that maybe if she were counselling a specific person that she knew she might be moreso. But, I think she’s really trying to get women to get off their excuses for why they aren’t going to obey and respect and reverence their husbands. I would love to know what Scriptures she is twisting, though…please share :o) I just restarted the book at Ch. 1 and will look for that more closely.

Thanks for chatting with me about it!

I was on Chapter 8 and then went back to chapter 1 to take more personal notes. Ya know, jot down the things that I really want to take to heart and ask God to change in me. Most of all I’m just really sad that I’ve wasted…I don’t know, 7 years of marriage (that would be all of them) with trying to be my husband’s conscience and not having a cheerful, thankful attitude when it really counts…when it’s HARD to be thankful and cheerful. Sure it’s easy to do it when everything is swell, but it’s when we are struggling financially or he has messed up big time somehow that I need to love him and honor him as I should Christ. I owe Chris a big apology, but more than that I owe him a changed wife! I’m grateful that God has revealed my sin to me through this book.

Praise the Lord Mindy that you have read and are reading again this amazing book! Not everyone will like it because she doesn’t give the fluff and stuff. She reminds me so much of Elisabeth Elliot in that reguard. We don’t need the fluff, we get enough of that from everyone everywhere! God has raised her up with such widsom and understanding to bless us.

I too, don’t agree with all their theology, but as for this book, she is right on target! What insight! Every single woman I have shared this book with has been dramatically changed. We need to swollow our pride and be willing to hear the truth so that we can apply it to our lives and bring glory to God and blessing to our husbands and children! I don’t think she was too hard on anyone! I thank God she has the guts to tell it like it is. If we don’t know the problem, we’ll never get to the cure!!

    I love you my sister,
    Charlene
